About Jamie Lynn (she/her)

An RMT since 2004 and the owner of Sore Spots Massage Therapy since 2007. In her practice she balances patient intake, clinic management, therapist mentorship and teaching public facing workshops as well as corporate outreach.

Her experience with massage began as an youth volunteering at the Single Parent Center (now the Chebucto Family Centre) in helping coordinate their baby massage groups.  It was at these weekly sessions that she takes a birds’ eye view of the world of massage therapy for the benefits of babies & community. It would be this imprinted memory that helped spark her interest in the world of bodywork later in life.

Training

She’s received other trainings such as Doula training through the Chebucto Family Center and a Certified Yoga Teacher through Therapeutic Approach Yoga Studio (TAYS) as well as a Pre-natal Yoga Instructor designation. She’s training extensively in various deep tissue techniques and mentored extensively with Gary Schweitzer (hands-on deep tissue therapy) from British Columbia and Nicole Ramien with Ashiatsu Canada (barefoot massage therapy). Her training has spanned through multiple schools of thought in the deep tissue ‘hands-on’ and ‘barefoot’ world and she is eternally grateful for her lineage of mentors for their grace & guidance in the healing arts. To say that she would not be where she is today without them is an understatement.

Current Style of Massage Therapy & Work Practice

When you come to see Jamie Lynn for treatment prepare yourself to move & be moved. You may start out with a simple interview on your injury history or more elaborate movement patterns may be observed to explore your more nuanced body mechanics. Sessions may start clothed with assisted stretches and mobilizations or a review of therapeutic homecare movements.

Table treatments will likely consist of a mix of deep tissue hands-on, barefoot massage therapy, cupping, gua sha, assisted stretching &/or hot stone. You may also be asked to actively participate in your healing by moving an arm or a leg a certain way as well as move around on the table like lying on your side or childs pose to add an element of positional and restorative release work. Ultimately, her style of care is based on her work as an RMT with 20 years of experience & ALWAYS catered to your treatment preferences, goals & natural connective tissue response. Nothing is forced & all deep tissue work is provided within the concept of the relaxation response. Respect is given to the ‘rhythm of release’ and the depth of soft tissue manipulation is layered so as to restore, rejuvenate and unwind in the most holistic approach possible.

Jamie Lynn is currently focusing her continued education on a STOTT PILATES certification through The Space Halifax as well as a 150 hour Thai Massage training.

Current Style of Teaching RMT’s

Within the Sore Spots culture, there is a strong circle of mentorship among our RMT’s. While there is a teaching component within our company, Jamie Lynn also teaches workshops publicly to other RMT’s within the Atlantic Canada region.

Her teaching style is a mix of a yoga-inspired languaging, a focus on breath work, holistically applied body framing & engaging for the working massage therapist in her specialized areas of hands-on & barefoot massage therapy. Her workshops are always 4-6 participants and her focus is to keep these workshops small & slowed down so that each RMT has focused one on one constructive guidance that results in better practice integration.
